'IN A HARPE WAY' : EARLY MUSIC ON
DIATONIC HARP –
Intermediate + Advanced – E+M

TUTOR : TOM DAUN
Manuscripts of early harp music are very rare. However, we know that the combination of lute and harp was extremely popular in the 16th and 17th centuries. So why not have a look at some lute compositions and play them on the harp? In this course we will learn how to adjust music of the Renaissance and Baroque period to a diatonic harp. Also we will spend some time with the Musicalische Rüstkammer auf der Harffe from 1711 – the earliest German source of harp music.

MUSIC FROM THE ROBERT AP HUW
MANUSCRIPT –
Mixed Abilities – E+M

PaulDooley

TUTOR : PAUL DOOLEY
The Robert ap Huw manuscript is the oldest collection of harp music in the world and is by far the oldest to contain both bass and treble. Written in a unique tablature, which includes precise information regarding fingering and technique, this is the only surviving fragment of the ancient bardic music that once dominated the Celtic world. This course will aim to give the student a good understanding of both the tablature and the fingering technique. We will also look in detail at a selected number of pieces and the historical context. All harps welcome.
